The newly appointed Bo District Agriculture Officer, Mr. Alex Boima Fissan, and his team paid a courtesy call on the Rural Finance and Community Improvement Programme (RFCIP) Project Team in Bo, reaffirming a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration in support of agricultural development and rural livelihoods. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) and the RFCIP to advance agricultural financing, improve food security, and support the Government of Sierra Leone’s Feed Salone Initiative.
Welcoming the delegation, RFCIP Programme Coordinator, Mr. Mohamed Tejan-Kella, described the visit as a significant milestone, noting that it was the first official courtesy visit by the MAFS Bo District Office to the RFCIP since the project established its Bo office seven years ago.
Mr. Tejan-Kella highlighted the critical role of access to finance in transforming agriculture and encouraged closer collaboration between MAFS, Community Banks (CBs), and Financial Services Associations (FSAs). He emphasized that strengthening these partnerships will enable more farmers, agribusinesses, and rural entrepreneurs to access the financial services needed to increase productivity, improve incomes, and contribute to national food security.
Speaking during the engagement, Mr. Alex Boima Fissan reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a strong working relationship with RFCIP. He stressed that sustainable agricultural growth depends not only on technical support but also on improved access to finance for farmers. “Agriculture cannot thrive without access to finance,” Mr. Fissan remarked, underscoring the importance of coordinated efforts between agricultural institutions and rural financial service providers.
The courtesy visit reflects a renewed commitment by both institutions to work together in expanding financial inclusion, supporting farmers, and accelerating the implementation of the Feed Salone Initiative. Through stronger partnerships, MAFS and RFCIP aim to enhance agricultural productivity, strengthen rural economies, and improve the livelihoods of farming communities across Bo District and beyond.
