The Rural Finance and Community Improvement Programme (RFCIP) has today, 18 August 2026, commenced a two-day National Digitalisation Kick-Off Workshop in Kenema, bringing together key stakeholders from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), Ministry of Finance, Bank of Sierra Leone (BSL), the Rural Finance Network (RFN), and Services Providers of the digitalisation programme.

Running from 18–19 August 2026, the workshop marks a significant milestone in the project’s efforts to transform the rural financial sector through modern digital banking solutions, secure nationwide connectivity, and an integrated Core Banking System (CBS). The digitalisation initiative is aimed at strengthening the Rural Finance Network by improving operational efficiency, enhancing the security and reliability of financial services and expanding access to modern banking services for hard-to-reach rural communities across the country. Following the Kenema session, the second phase of the kick-off workshop will be held in Makeni from 21–22 August 2026 and it will also bring together all Rural Finance Institutions and key stakeholders from the Northwest Region.
Together, these engagements mark an important step towards building a more connected, secured and digitally enabled rural financial sector in Sierra Leone.
